27.78g Silver Coin 2011 $20 Canada Sterling Silver Winter Scene

Get this holiday winter scene of serene beauty, traditionally engraved and struck in precious silver, as two farm folk return to their homestead over the hills with a just-cut Christmas tree!

The silent calm of just-fallen snow pervades the winterscape on Québec artist Rémi Clark's pastoral masterpiece! Two farmers or habitants drag a just-cut Christmas tree back to their homestead, set in rolling hills covered with snow. This coin’s combination of frosting, brilliant and mirrored finishes give the appearance of movement to the snow, and definition to the trees along the path. Landscape perspective (depth of field) has been used to show the distance between the two folks and their home. This limited edition, pastoral winter scene (with only 8,000 coins available worldwide!) will appeal to lovers of winter, fans of the stark simplicity of rural life, and art aficionados seeking the work of talented, practicing artists. This silver proof's intricate and elegant design reveals the exceptional talents of the artist, the engraver and unparalleled RCM craftsmanship.

Country Life—Over the Hills and Through the Woods!
Oh, the great Canadian winter, namesake of the Great White North! At once harsh and beautiful, this longest of seasons has defined a nation and captured imaginations for centuries.

Homesteaders demonstrated boundless fortitude and adaptability as they faced the challenges of pioneer life in winter. Traveling any distance often required snowshoes and/or a sled, to avoid becoming bogged down in snow that quickly became hip deep or worse!

Despite these hardships, early settlers maintained a sense of fun. Neighbors would gather to skate on frozen lakes or slide down hills on toboggans, build snowmen, and fight long-range battles with the snowball. They were always conscious that a warm, glowing fire awaited their return. a special wintry comfort that continues to warm hearts to this day.

This is the fourth coin in the annual Holiday Traditions series of silver proofs, following 2009's Hanging the Stockings, 2008's Christmas Carolers and Tree and 2007's Wintertime Sleigh Ride Silver Proof. The superb designers and engravers at the Royal Canadian Mint have continued last year's theme of the Christmas tree and the old-fashioned look of the design. This is traditional engraving and design at its finest, and will be an inspiring gift for anyone who appreciates the thoughts of traditional Christmas activities.

Nothing says "Christmas fun" like bringing home your own fresh-cut Christmas tree to decorate, but owning a meticulously-engraved silver proof that captures the memories of a simpler time gone by is a close second!
